Oritin is our biotin tablet: biotin (vitamin B7) 2500 mcg USP, one tablet daily.
Made at our own facility on Adiyala Road, Rawalpindi, where we have been formulating since 1998. The DRAP enlistment number, batch number and expiry date are printed on every pack.
What biotin contributes to
These are the established claims:
- The maintenance of normal hair
- The maintenance of normal skin
- Normal macronutrient and energy-yielding metabolism
- Normal functioning of the nervous system
- Normal psychological function
Note the word "normal". These are maintenance claims, and they are the ones the evidence supports.
What we are not going to tell you
That it grows new hair. Biotin deficiency causes hair thinning and brittle nails, and correcting that deficiency reverses the problem — that much is clear. Whether extra biotin helps someone whose levels are already adequate is far less clear, and most reviews conclude the evidence there is thin.
True deficiency is uncommon, though it does happen with long-term use of certain medicines, some digestive conditions, and in people eating a lot of raw egg white.
So the honest framing is: biotin supports normal hair, rather than creates new growth. Our article on what biotin does and what it does not sets this out in full.
The nutrients people forget
When hair sheds more than usual, biotin is rarely the whole story. Low ferritin is one of the commonest findings in women with hair shedding and is easily tested. Thyroid function affects hair in both directions. Very low-calorie or restrictive diets show up in hair months later. Illness, surgery, childbirth or major stress commonly trigger a wave of shedding two to three months afterwards.
Hair grows roughly one centimetre a month, so three months is the minimum sensible period before judging any routine, and six is better.
One practical catch worth knowing
High-dose biotin can interfere with certain laboratory blood tests, including some thyroid and cardiac tests, producing misleading results. If you are having blood tests, tell the laboratory or your doctor that you take biotin.
How to take it
One tablet daily after a meal, with water, or as directed by your doctor. Do not exceed the stated dose. Pack size as printed on the carton.
